At Kawatiri Kids, we are incredibly proud to hold the Pa Harakeke (Gold) Healthy Heart Award which was awarded to us by New Zealand’s Healthy Heart Foundation in April, 2020. Achieving this top level award means that healthy eating and physical activity practices are recognised and woven sustainably into all aspects of our centre environment, we are helping our tamariki to have healthy habits and healthy hearts for life.

We use minimally processed food, avoiding recipes that are high in added sugar and instead, we embrace fresh, real and wholesome ingredients to offer a menu that is full of nutritious and tasty recipes across morning-tea, lunch and afternoon-tea.

Each season, our menu is changed to suit the weather. We also want to make the most of delicious, seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables. So your child tastes a variety of meals, our menu is on a 4-week rotation.

We are also mindful of any food allergies or intolerances your child may have. Please specify these at time of enrolment.

Curious about what your child is eating? Ask us for a copy of today’s menu.

On a specified day, we have a centrewide Lunch Box Day. The children thoroughly enjoy this, and it promotes independence and encourage self-help skills in preparation for school.

Transport & Excursions

We proudly operate our own Kawatiri Kids centre van, allowing us to help support both new and existing families who require assistance with transport to and from the centre. We also utilise this awesome resource for excursions out and about in our local community!
Our children love going on excursions to the Oaks and Acorns O’Connor Rest Home to take part in their music group and twice a year our 4 year old children do trips to the local Stockton Mine, these are always a fantastic learning opportunities!

Other excursions also include regular visits to the beach, local school assemblies and productions

We often have our local community join us in centre for visits and enhance our children’s knowledge about people, places, things and events.

Transition to School

At Kawatiri Kids, we often get positive feedback from our parents and teachers from our local Primary Schools about our
Transition to School Programme.

We hold this programme close to our hearts and consider it a real point of difference in our community.

We believe in building a foundation for children to transition to school as confident, capable learners. This programme for our 4 year olds offers structured daily sessions that focus on literacy and numeracy. Teachers cater the lessons to each individual childs needs and build on key skills such as listening and following instructions, being involved, working alongside one another, extending concentration and promoting independence.

To compliment this programme, once a week the children 4 years and above ‘create’ their own lunchbox, which helps further develop independence, self-help skills, as well as time management.

Portfolios & Storypark

We use an awesome app called Storypark, which allows whānau to follow their child’s early learning journey and to ensure you don’t miss out on important centre communications.

Photos, videos and audio capture your child’s learning so you never miss a treasured moment again. You and your family can also feel more engaged in your child’s development, and you decide who you would like to invite to experience your childs learning journey with you. A perfect way to share those special moments with loved ones down the line or overseas.

Although we love to use Storypark as an online platform to communicate with parents, we also use paper portfolios for each child.

Children enjoy finding their paper portfolio and reflecting on their past activities at the centre. It is a fantastic way for children to engage in self-recognition and reflect on their personal development, as well as being a treasured keepsake for their 21st Birthday!
